Dear New Members,
Welcome to Trent University and to the Trent University Faculty Association (TUFA)! Whether you’re joining us in Peterborough or at our Durham campus, we’re so pleased to have you as part of our academic community.
For those who are new to us, TUFA has been the certified bargaining agent for full-time faculty and professional librarians at Trent since 1980. Over the years, we’ve worked to strengthen protections, improve working conditions, and advance equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization on our campuses. Your voice matters, so please feel welcome to get involved. You should have already received a copy of the New Faculty Manual from your Dean’s office, but I’m sharing the link here again in case it’s handy.
If you have questions about your contract, workload, or any other employment-related concern, our Executive Director, Dr. Marcus Harvey, is your first point of contact.
TUFA is deeply rooted in labour solidarity and our community. We are active members of the Peterborough & District Labour Council and work closely with our national affiliate, the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT), and our provincial affiliate, the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA). Locally, we support initiatives such as the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Legacy Space at the Peterborough Public Library, and our Committee on Community and Social Justice Contributions funds a variety of local community projects in Peterborough and Durham.
We have in-person events coming up and look forward to seeing you there! Watch your inbox for details, and keep an eye on the TUFA website for updates, resources, and announcements.
Once again, welcome to TUFA. I, and the rest of the TUFA team, look forward to meeting you and working together to make our university community stronger.
In solidarity,
Moira Howes
President, Trent University Faculty Association
