Colleagues,
I hope this message finds everyone well at the start of a new academic cycle. Negotiations with the Employer resumed this past week following a summer hiatus and we will circulate an update in the coming days. Meantime, there are a few time-sensitive matters warranting your attention.
- Call for Negotiations Council
TUFA’s Negotiations Council helps the Executive Committee meet its Constitutional responsibility to ensure that the membership is consulted and informed at all stages of the collective bargaining process. We will convene a meeting of this body on September 11th. Our Negotiations Council should reflect the membership, with every department and school represented. We will be adding members to the Council in the coming days and so please let us know if you would like more information about serving on this body. Thanks to those who have already volunteered: we will send you additional information later this week.
- Call for TUFA Equity Committee
TUFA’s Member-at-Large (Equity), Nael Bhanji chairs the Association’s Equity Committee and invites members interested in serving on this Committee to contact him directly. The Committee is broadly concerned with equity issues and aims to promote an employment environment through TUFA that is inclusive, diverse, and equitable for all members of the Trent community.
3. Labour Day activities – Monday, September 1st
The Durham Region Labour Council’s celebration (11:00 a.m. to 2:00) p.m. will be held at Memorial Park, 110 Simcoe St. S., Oshawa with live music provided by local bands, “Postman Dan” and “Plz Respond.”
The Peterborough & District Labour Council’s celebration (11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) will be held at Nicholls Oval Park, 725 Armour Rd., Petertborough with live music provided by “The Ilk”.
Both events include children’s activities and entertainment.
4. New Faculty Manual
The Deans of Arts and Science Office updates the New Faculty Manual annually. TUFA’s welcome message to new members included last year’s version, please replace that with the 2025 New Faculty Manual which is now available.
In Solidarity,
Marcus
