Call for Special GMM to set the Bargaining Mandate

Colleagues,

As previously announced, TUFA will be holding two meetings toward the end of May to finalize our bargaining mandate for the upcoming round of negotiations with the employer. The first of these meetings is scheduled for May 26th over Zoom and will be an informal opportunity for members to discuss the proposed mandate in advance of the formal General Membership Meeting (GMM) two days later at which the proposed mandate may be amended prior to a final version being approved by the membership. Zoom links were sent to faculty members in the GMM notice email.

Monday May 26th (2:00 pm to 4:00 pm) – Information session (online only)

Wednesday May 28th (1:00 pm to 4:00 pm) – Mandate Approval Membership Meeting (hybrid)

Bata Library, Room 103 (Film Theatre)

The tentative Agenda for the GMM on May 28th is attached. The proposed Mandate that is now being developed by the Bargaining Team for recommendation by the Executive Committee should be circulated by May 23rd along with any other documents for the GMM. Following extensive consultation with the membership, the Bargaining Team is now working to draft the mandate based on members’ concerns and suggestions. The contributions of everyone who participated in these consultations is greatly appreciated as member engagement is the ultimate source of the Union’s strength at the bargaining table. To this end, members can expect to receive several emailed micro-surveys in the coming days. These surveys will help the Bargaining Team further refine its strategy in preparation for negotiations. We are deliberately keeping these surveys short, simple, and anonymous. We do hope for a very high response rate, and so please take a minute or two to complete them when you are able. Many thanks!

As always, alternative formats for TUFA documents are available on request and —  per the Association’s “Policy on Payment for Care of Dependents” — individual members anticipating such expenses in connection with attending the GMM should contact the TUFA office to arrange for reimbursement.

In Solidarity,

Marcus Harvey,
