Upcoming Events

Dear Colleagues,

Please note the following events that may be of interest to TUFA members:

1. Provost and Deans’ BBQ – September 7th

Interested members who have not already done so should register promptly for the Provost and Deans’ BBQ on September 7th from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. We checked with the Provost this morning and the event will be both indoors and outdoors, making full use of Champlain’s spacious Great Hall and its direct access to the grounds. Embracing the precautionary principle with regard to health and safety, TUFA encourages indoor mask wearing. N. B. The deadline for registering is today.

2. PDLC Labour Day BBQ – September 5th

The Peterborough & District Labour Council’s annual Labour Day BBQ is back after a two-year hiatus. TUFA is, of course, a member of the Labour Council and members are invited to participate in this family-friendly event on Monday September 5th (11:30 am to 2:00 pm) at Nicholls Oval Park (725 Armour Road). Local bands — The Ilks and The Pine Saps — will provide entertainment and a variety of activities are planned for children, including the raffling of a new bicycle to a child in attendance (bicycle courtesy of our comrades in the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1320). The event is free and open to the public. Vegetarian food options provided.

3. Zoom Call with Dr. Piggott – September 26th

TUFA’s first scheduled event for fall will take place on Monday, September 26th from 11:00 am to Noon via Zoom. A zoom link will be sent to all members nearer to the event, but we wanted to make sure that members could hold this time on their calendars.. Dr. Thomas Piggott is Peterborough’s Medical Officer of Health and we have invited him to address with us the opioid crisis, the housing crisis, Covid-19, and other pressing public health issues.

In Solidarity,
