TUFA Update and Solidarity with Laurentian

Colleagues, Please note the following updates and Solidarity request from our Provincial affiliate, OCUFA.
 1. Solidarity with our colleagues at Laurentian.

With the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) process at Laurentian University drawing to a close, OCUFA has teamed up with the Laurentian University Faculty Association (LUFA) and Laurentian University Staff Union (LUSU) to issue a joint media release calling for accountability and transparency from the Laurentian Administration and the Government of Ontario. OCUFA recently launched an online tool calling on Laurentian’s Board of Governors Chair demanding accountability, transparency, and a new administration.  TUFA members are encouraged to support this important initiative by adding their name to the campaign and sharing this link widely.

2. Salary Parity Adjustment

TUFA members’ July 15th pay should reflect both the annual step increase (for everyone not already at cap) as well as a parity adjustment to the whole scale. This year’s parity increase worked out to 1% and is the third and final adjustment constrained as a direct result of “The Protecting a Sustainable Public Sector for Future Generations Act” (better known by its less Orwellian-sounding title: Bill 124).  We have posted the updated Salary Scale on our website. We have also posted a Memorandum of Agreement with the Employer that extends timelines relating to SETS and probationary appointment, and which provides for the roll-over of unspent professional expense funds from last year.

3. Guidelines for Academic Course Syllabi

Further to TUFA’s advocacy at Joint Committee, we were pleased to see that the decanal guidelines for syllabi review have been revised.  TUFA had argued that the review of syllabi by Chairs/Directors was sufficient and that an additional review by the Deans was inefficient. It would seem the Deans agreed.

In Solidarity,
