We are writing to update you on a number of important items.
1. Salary Parity Adjustment
The Union and the Employer haveconfirmed that this year’s salary parity adjustment for members continuing at Trent in 2021/22 will be 0.83%. Consequently, the value of all steps on the salary scale will increase by 0.83% effective one minute before midnight on June 30, 2021. This change, along with annual step progression, should be reflected in members’ July 16th pay (covering the period June 27 to July 10). TUFA has posted the revised pay scale to our website.
2. Merit pool expansion
Not surprisingly, applicants for merit awards last year were down considerably. We assume this was due to the excess workload associated with the pandemic. To reflect the unused awards in last year’s pool, the University and TUFA have agreed to a one-time expansion ofthe Merit pool from 30 to 40 for 2021. Merit awards are a permanent step added to base salary and so this is a significant opportunity for eligible members to augment their career earnings. Members holding tenure-stream or permanency-stream appointments are eligible to apply for Merit after their first year of employment at Trent. Members may apply on the basis of exceptional contributions in teaching, research, or service provided that their Annual Performance Reviews for the past three years demonstrate that they have been satisfactory in the other two areas. Members may not receive an award in the same category more than once every five years, and may not receive more than one award in any three year period. Applications must be submitted to the department by October 1st for consideration by the personnel committee. Please see Article VII.14 of the TUFA collective agreement for additional information about the Merit award process.
3. COVID Extensions
In addition to adjusting a number of administrativedeadlines, the parties agreed to extend several other COVID-related adjustments from last year. Of particular note:
a) probationary members who are required to submit an application for reappointment, permanency, promotion, or tenure this year may postpone that application to 2022/23 without penalty provided that they make a request to do so by August 1st, 2021. Please note: a member may only defer consideration by a total of one-year due to COVID, but remains eligible for other extensions under Article IV.4 (“Extension of the Probationary Period”) of the Collective Agreement;
b) members who opted to conduct SETS last yearhave the option to not use them in for any future personnel decisions and the optional nature of SETS has been extended through the end of the Fall 2021 term;
c) unspent start-up funds and professional expense funds that would otherwise have expired between 30 June 2020 and 1 July 2021 will rollover for member use In 2021/22.
